At the very tail end of Joe's career,
after his voice had become permanently hoarse, the Lewis Brothers, who were the core of Inner Circle, signed Joe to a recording deal.
They were based in Miami and had acquired considerable chips in the game.
Perhaps it was wishful thinking on their part, but Joe's ability to sing was severley damaged, and yet, they recorded him for their own label using reggae styled production and session players.
Ian Lewis (the bass player) was an associate at the time and I had an early listen to what they had done.
I had loved Joe Tex from the early sixties and when I heard what had become of his talent near his end made me very sad, and I've tried to turn off the memory of what that shit sounded like.
