About The Film & Entertainment Industry in Canada

In 2016, the Canadian Film and Entertainment Industry is primarily being fueled by growing demand for high quality digital video content around the world, including worldwide box office growth, emerging streaming services such as Netflix, a lower Canadian dollar compared to the US dollar, attractive Canadian tax incentive programs, and other new and emerging areas in the field, such as virtual reality.

From Bloomberg - Toronto Film Industry is Booming - (http://bloom.bg/2g3cYy2):

“Stoked by a drop in the Canadian dollar against the U.S. greenback, favorable tax credits and a surge in demand for original content by companies such as Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, film and television production is at a record in Canada. Toronto alone will play host to almost 700 productions in 2016, according to the city.

(Meanwhile), the boom is bringing in more than C$5.5 billion a year across the country and employing more than 128,000 full-time workers, according to the Canadian Media Producers Association ( http://cmpa.ca/) , where the biggest recipient has been British Columbia.”

From the Globe and Mail - The movie industry in Vancouver is booming once again, thanks to Netflix - (https://tgam.ca/2h1jjtl):

“British Columbia, favored for its proximity to Los Angeles and beneficial tax credits, has become a production mecca for not just Hollywood films, but a new generation of scripted television. Business is booming in British Columbia, largely due to foreign – a.k.a. Hollywood – productions.”
