the Yanks, in hindsight on performance, obviously overpaid for Jacoby---but those were the #'s he and Choo were valued at by the market at that time--both around ~$150M/7years...
I'm not gonna argue whether Choo and Ellsbury should have been valued that high by the market or who is/was better---the simple fact is they were...the Yankees offered Choo $140/7yrs and he turned us down and ended up with the Rangers at $130M/7years
