Responsible for overseeing asset forfeiture and specializing in money laundering officewide. Chief liaison with U.S. Department of Justice on forfeiture in $1.9 billion forfeiture in HSBC and $350 million forfeiture in Standard Chartered OFAC sanctions cases, as well as OFAC sanctions case against BNP Paribas. Supervised and managed a full-time staff of dedicated prosecutors and support personnel dealing with asset forfeiture and money laundering on a wide variety of criminal cases, including OFAC sanctions enforcement and violations of the Bank Secrecy Act. Forfeited more than $55 million in state funds and $1 billion in federal funds in fiscal years 2012 and 2013. Supervised and trained analysts on a Suspicious Activity Report (“SAR”) team investigating state and federal money laundering cases, Title 31 and other Bank Secrecy Act (“BSA”) cases. Original drafter of criminal forfeiture provision that was included in Governor Cuomo’s 2012 budget proposal. Appointed counsel to executive staff oversight committee on spending of money laundering funds for citywide criminal justice projects. Regularly conducted training on forfeiture, money laundering, compliance and financial investigations. Ran all aspects of the District Attorney’s restitution and restoration of forfeited funds to crime victims. Appointed Special Assistant Attorney General to supervise forfeiture aspects of People v. Joseph Stevens and Co., Inc., a securities fraud case. Assisted in drafting 2013 report of the White Collar Crimes Task Force of the District Attorney’s Association.
