The companies blog was updated with a tutorial on brake technology. They make it sound simple to bring to market, but if it were easy they would already have had someone license their motor/generator design. The variation in measurements problem they had last year during testing is a concern for all applications.

I wonder if they did any modeling of their design or just built a prototype and hoped it would work. There is readily free software (Energy2D) they could use, but the OEMs should have access to more accurate simulators. They could also use the visuals for publicity showing a simulation of motor w/o heat pipes and one (check out the metal versus wood spoon on Energy2D siter). They don't need to model the interior of the heat pipe because they aren't selling heat pipes, but make assumptions for the rate of transfer at its boundaries and show heat transfer inside motor/brake casing. They could probably get a grad student to do it for nearly free, via beer, pizza and a few shares.
