Stores and banks could easily stop fraud in "card not present" transactions.

Giving their online customers inexpensive card readers to communicate with laptops and phones, similar to one I received from UBS for bank transactions, would bring chip and pin security to online transactions.

Banks have rejected this as too inconvenient. As the cost of "card not present" fraud rises, we'll learn how much fraud is too much to be convenient.

We've run out of other people's Social Security taxes needed to subsidize our low income tax rates.
