BTW, we've had this rumor before AND nothing ever came of it! I just can't imagine them not living back east somewhere, but you never know ,,,

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - The New York Post's Page Six is calling it a done deal, all but putting an end to long-time rumors the first family is buying a home in Rancho Mirage. The newspaper simply cited an unnamed "source" for the information.

The city says it has not been officially briefed but expects to learn more soon.

"I would think that we would find out fairly soon now that it has broken nationally," said Mayor Ted Weill.

It is nothing the city has not seen before.

"This is, frankly, a land of the presidents. Gerald Ford had a home here. President Eisenhower had a home at El Dorado Country Club," Weill added.

"We're used to it. We know how it works and we're happy to have another president, former president who will be living in our city," said Steve Downs, a realtor in the area.

Downs speculated the first family may have chosen a gated, upscale neighborhood in the area.

"Thunderbird Heights is the probable community that we think he will live in," he told CBS Local 2's and KESQ News Channel 3's Katie Widner. "Our understanding is that this property might be in the fourish million dollar range. We don't know for sure."

If and when the Obamas will make the move is unknown, however, they plan to remain in Washington D.C. for at least two years while their youngest daughter Sasha finishes high school.

The White House had no comment on the matter Monday afternoon.

The President has visited the Coachella Valley at least five times over the past eight years.
