Throw every thing you think you know out. You are making it way too complicated.

Now:

1) What do you want to own long term? Broad market (large, small, foreign, reit, bonds) or industries? If industries, which ones?

2) now that you have a list find ETFs from I shares or Vanguard that match those.

3) As you have money buy one fund to AIM at a time, buying the worst performing funds of the last year or two first. Add the other funds to AIM in separate accounts as you get the funds.

4) Now that you have a plan of funds to own and to AIM them, do NOT second guess the plan. Do not ever change you AIM parameters ( SAFE, Min Order size ) once you pick them.
