Fox Radio on Sirius had a special on opioid treatment this morning. They highlighted Vivitrol.

"The first and only once-monthly, non-addictive treatment for opioid or alcohol dependence.
VIVITROL must be used with other recovery programs such as counseling.
You must be opioid-free for 7-14 days before starting VIVITROL."

One point I found interesting was that apparently it had improved results over cold turkey in the short term (6 months maybe) I missed the time frame, but they did say that over time the failure rate fell back to match the no treatment group. That's discouraging. I would be interested to see if the implants maintain an improved outcome in the longer term. The program did mention that they were targeting it for use in prisons.
