While this may be true, there is every chance that the acquisitions are proactively defensive in nature, given the potential for theft of IP in this industry, and especially given their patent portfolio and the implications of it. The fewer outside hands there are that have access to the keys to their IP, the better.

It may be that they are simply taking the shorter-term hit to achieve longer-term security over their assets and destiny.
