Father of soldier fights to keep American flag on his front door

(WHP) - A Reading man, Pennsylvania, and father of a soldier is fighting for his right to fly an American flag on his front door after questioning his homeowner association about their rule.
Russell Diesinger might be in a battle with the Homeowner's Association but if you take a look at the entrance to his community you can see a handful of American flags put there to show support.
This is a battle he said he is not backing down from.
Diesinger said, " I get so angry. If I think about it enough I get really angry."
Russell Diesinger has been periodically hanging an American flag on his door for fifteen years. He hangs it every time his son is deployed.
"We worry about him and we miss him and this is our way of helping him come home safe," Diesinger said.
The flag has been on Diesinger's door through every deployment and it has never been a problem until this summer when his Homeowner's Association changed the rules.
Diesinger said," We got a letter from them that stated it needed to come down immediately and if it didn't they'd fine us by the day."
He didn't take it down but instead he challenged the association to research the American Flag Act of 2005 and the association then sent him the bill for doing that research.
"How did we get here? What's happened in everybody's life that we can't help support one another and we can't just at least show a little empathy for people," Diesinger said.
We went to the president of the association's door but she had a sign asking not to knock or ring the doorbell.
We also went to the vice president's house and no one answered. Diesinger wished they could put themselves in his shoes for just one minute.
Diesinger said,"I wish I could explain to you how it feels when you're just waiting and you're always waiting for the other shoe to drop and so for them to tell us we have to change this routine, that in our opinion has worked for 15 years, it's like somebody punching you right in the stomach. "
According to Diesinger, they can send him as many bills as they want because he's not paying them and if his son is deployed again the flag is going right back up.
"We have done it faithfully and you can't argue with the results," Diesinger said.
Diesinger was told by an attorney that it would cost him $9,000 to fight this so for now he is just going to wait it out.
