Here's a thought.

Suppose you had access to private emails obtained illegally by another party.

Suppose you held a really deep grudge against someone "implicated" by the contents (especially taken out of context) of those illegally gained emails.

Suppose there was nothing in those emails that was absolutely, unarguably damning about your target who happens to be the Democratic nominee for President (because if there were such a nuclear email, you probably wouldn't have waited to release it after early voting started).

And since the opposition is a nut job and the last person you want in the Oval Office (no matter who the Russians are supporting), AND since you know that being impeached is soooo much worse than never being elected anyway...

Suppose you decide to leak your ill-gotten emails a few at a time, a slow drip that doesn't impede the election of your target but does enact a slow revenge that you hope will make her presidency totally ineffectual.

Unless, of course, you save the best for after the election...and get the impeachment you wanted all along.

Lastly, suppose the Director of the FBI is gaming the system with his latest suspicion-raising-without-actually-providing-any-specifics "accusatory" just-informing-Congress-like-I'm-supposed-to communication, knowing that Trump is a lost cause (Thank God), but maybe we can save some Republican Senators while planting more (unsubstantiated) seeds of suspicion...

Hmmm....just a thought.
