I asked IB if the available short number applies to them, or all brokers.

Q) "If I.B. shows that stock XYZ has 500,000 shares available to short, is that 500,000 for just shorting through IB, or is that 500,000 total through all brokers ??

In other words, does IB have 500,000, while another broker may have 250,000, for a total of 750,000 available to short in the marketplace ??"

A) When the system shows 500,000 shares are available for shorting, that is overall not just at IB.
