GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump kicked off his “Closing Arguments” tour Saturday in Gettysburg and outlined what he would do in his first 100 days in office.
Trump announced a new plan for his policies, if elected, at the Eisenhower Hotel and Conference Center. They included ideas for the economy, veterans, and national security.
Trump said he would do six things his first day in office. Those include a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on all members of the U.S. Congress, a hiring freeze on all federal employees to reduce the federal workforce through attrition, exempting military, public safety, and public health. His plan also entails a requirement that for every new federal regulation, two existing regulations must be eliminated, a five-year ban on White House and congressional officials becoming lobbyists after leaving service, a lifetime ban on White House officials lobbying on behalf of a foreign government, and a complete ban on foreign lobbyists raising money for American elections.
His 100-day plan include seven actions to protect American workers. Trump wants to renegotiate NAFTA, withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, work with China over currency, and direct the secretary of commerce to identify all foreign trading abuses. He would also allow the Keystone Pipeline and stop giving money to the United Nations for their climate change program.
“I will lift the restrictions on the production of $50 trillion worth of job-producing American energy reserves, including shale, oil, natural gas, and clean coal,” Trump said.
Trump’s priorities also include ending Common Core, providing more care for veterans, and removing more than two-million criminal undocumented immigrant from the country.
He’s also proposing a corporate and middle class tax cut.
“The middle class with a family of two children will get basically, approximately a 35 percent tax cut,” Trump said. “That’s what they can use, and that money will go back into the economy.”
Trump also said the claims of sexual assault by almost a dozen women are fabricated.
“The events never happened, never. All of these liars will be sued after the election is over,” Trump said.
Hillary Clinton’s Deputy Communications Director Christina Reynolds had the following response to Trump’s speech:
“Today, in what was billed as a major closing argument speech, Trump’s major new policy was to promise political and legal retribution against the women who have accused him of groping them. Like Trump’s campaign, this speech gave us a troubling view as to what a Trump State of the Union would sound like-rambling, unfocused, full of conspiracy theories and attacks on the media, and lacking in any real answers for American families.”
Trump mentioned other things he would do on his first day in office to increase security and rule of law. He would begin selecting a new supreme court justice, cancel all federal funding of sanctuary cities, and suspend immigration from terror-prone regions where vetting cannot safely occur.
“I would cancel every unconstitutional executive action, memorandum, and order used by President Obama,” Trump said.
About 300 supporters turned out for this invitation-only event, which was closed to the public. Pete Seville wasn’t invited but rode his bike to the event and stood with it outside.
“We let our country I feel go downhill far enough, and we just need to stand up for our country,” Seville said.
“I am a registered Democrat. I serve as the mayor of Middletown, Pennsylvania, and I have never voted for a Republican president,” said Jim Curry, who will vote for Trump in November.
Steven Gainey brought his five-year-old son to the event.
“Donald Trump is the only one who’s come out and been open fixing the problems of radical Islam, fixing the problems of the law enforcement community being targeted,” Gainey said.
Trump spoke for about 30 minutes. His other stops Saturday include Virginia Beach, Va., and Cleveland, Ohio.
