In this election, five states will vote on legalizing recreational cannabis and four others on medical usage. The outlook for most of these initiatives is good because: (a) It follows the trend of the last decade and, (b) the implosion of the Republican presidential (and down-ticket) races raises the possibility that pro-cannabis propositions may get a boost from democratic victories in swing states (see Florida).
If this scenario plays out, it will only increase pressure on Congress to take action to bring Federal statutes and policies more in line with those of the several states.
