Magnetic Relaxometry to Assess Disease via Circulating Markers

Methods and apparatuses for detecting substances circulating in a patient's blood are described. The substances, such as tumor cells, are targeted with nanoparticles labeled such that they preferentially bind with the substance of interest. As the nanoparticle-labeled substance circulates, it can pass near a magnetic relaxometry system that can detect the substance by detecting the nanoparticles bound to it.
