Mr. Trump criticized the Obama administration’s support of publicizing in advance the Iraqi-led attack on Mosul, which just began.
Not so fast.
Donald J. Trump criticized American and Iraqi officials for disclosing any details in advance about the attack on Mosul that started this week. He ignores that American commanders, in this case and in the past, have deliberately publicized some of their plans as “psychological operations,” either to make combat operations easier or to allow civilians to flee to safety.
Mr. Trump advocated a sneak attack, something that’s virtually impossible to do with a force of 30,000 Iraqi soldiers that has taken months to assemble.
