I remember those. I even remember that 1/16 was nicknamed "teeny" or
"teenies." The strange thing is that a lot of stocks didn't even
trade in teenies - talk about wide spreads:

And now they say high frequency trading is inefficient - it's
mostly traded in the pennies or even half pennies. In my view,
the investors are better off now with those narrow spreads.

Talk about inefficient for the buyers when they had to pay up by a
minimum of 1/8 = 12.5 cents. Or sometimes even 1/4 - a whopping
25 cents!
