I had to reject an application based on lack of passion in previous investments. Some notes for what is required: If you can be a Shark on Shark Tank, you have what it takes. If your name is Mark Cubin, you can be a board member.

You must be passionate about your investments. You can't be a slum landlord. For example, I own some condos that I am emotionally attached to. They are MINE, just as this company is mine. I live through the executives. I invest my energy in my condos and choose places where I would want to live and upkeep them accordingly. I invest in nice ceramic floors, expensive appliances with bells and whistles. And my tenants are my teammates, and they win with me. They are part of my network.

If I ever find a written record anywhere where you said "don't be emotionally attached to your investments," that will not tip the scales in your favor.

However, everything will be weighed accordingly. Where the scales tip will determine access or denial. As Peter Lynch said, patience is the key character trait needed for a successful investor.
