Why is insurance rates sky high lets

open the market to every insurance company to do business in every state

and have good old fashioned competition.

Another of Trump's misconceptions. Insurance rates are as high as they are in part because Congress--Republicans and many Democrats--has for decades been willing to let them get away with charging whatever they want. Far as I'm concerned, health insurers should be not-for-profit. Nearly all of them once were; nowadays, hardly any are.

In addition, healthcare costs have been rising insanely. That's partly because we really do have new technologies, new treatments, and new drugs. Back in the 50s and early 60s, there were very few effective ways of dealing with most serious illnesses. If you had an infection, you got antibiotics. If you had a heart attack, you got nitroglycerine if it was accompanied by angina; otherwise you were told to lose weight and take it easy. If you got cancer, they tried radiation. If the patient failed to respond to the few treatments available, it was curtains.

Now we have much, much more. The problem is that it's all very, very expensive. Does it need to be? I don't think so. It costs much less elsewhere in the world. Why do you think many Americans are traveling abroad for medical treatment? It's called "medical tourism". Need heart surgery? Go to India or Thailand. Outcomes are excellent, and the cost is a tenth what it is here.

No healthcare plan will work unless we can rein in costs. And no one seems to be dedicating much time to figuring out how that can be done.

As for allowing insurers to sell across state lines, to some extent that's already done. Trump needs to inform himself on that topic as well as so many others. But here's the difficulty. The cost of living differs widely among different states and regions. If the insurers are allowed to sell nationally, they'll simply charge everyone the prices that obtain in the highest cost of living states.

Have you ever considered informing yourself about all this?
