The vet is telling me he can be maintained with insulin twice a day but I could not get his sugar down and they just told me they are keeping him for a couple of days to get it down and get him to eating. Then the decision is whether or not to try and maintain him. If he gets back to normal (even though he's old he has been fairly active) he has to have shots at the same time 12 hrs apart and eat then also.My wife and I travel a lot on weekends - Ringo has taken many trips but as he gets older we have been leaving him at home for his comfort. We have one of our grandchildren living with us going to school and she takes care of the dogs when we are gone.We hardly see her and I don't know that it's fair to put this extra care on her even though she would do it.For me the shots are absolutely not an issue nor anything else I have to do for him but it's not all about me, others are involved and his quality of life has to be worth it. Dang dogs and their unconditional love. Thanks eastunder
