Thanks...Robert Samuelson, Wash Post columnist, was interviewed by Brian Lamb last night, (Q and A on C-SPAN). Samuelson admittedly is a conserv-leaning economist; I found many of his views interesting.

One of the topics that came up last night was immigration...Samuelson's view is we need a system that gives priority to skilled workers over unskilled workers, rather than today's policy that favors family preference for green cards...The gains from immigration would be magnified if we emphasize high-skilled workers. Productivity would be higher, poverty lower. Interestingly, this would also help low-skilled Americans, both natives and recent immigrants. They wouldn't have to compete against new low-skilled immigrants, who will vie for their jobs and depress wages.
He believes Donald Trump has been a disaster for this country and uses the immigration issue as a wedge issue and shows little understanding of the underlying substance. He believes Hillary Clinton seems intent on placating her Hispanic supporters, many of whom surely support family preferences for legally immigrating to the United States.
It was an interesting discussion.

Samuelson does not vote because he feels he cannot write fairly about pols/their policies if he votes for/against a pol.
