The excitement generated by Donald Trump’s campaign is nothing new. The last outbreak of it was 24 years ago as another businessman, Ross Perot threw his hat in the ring for many of the same reasons – especially the so-called “free trade” issues surrounding another trade called NAFTA.

Ross Perot made me realize that we were being lied to and that so-called “free trade” was, in reality the slave trade.

The NAFTA debate was firing up in Congress and the free-traders were all lining up telling us what a wonderful thing it would be for American workers. It turned out to be good only for international businessmen, not the average American.

We were told that the lost manufacturing jobs lost would be replaced by millions of new high tech jobs. The results 24 years later are clear. The paycheck for the average American has not increased since then and the urban areas of many big American cities now look like war zones.

Perot, an experienced businessman saw through their lies and threatened to run for President on the Larry King Show on Feb. 20, 1992. A huge wave of public sentiment basically drafted Perot. It was the same wave - the same excitement - that has brought Trump to this point.

By early July, Perot was leading in the polls in the 3-way race between Republican president George H. W. Bush and then Arkansas governor Bill Clinton. The establishment was scared. Perot could actually win this thing.

Then suddenly Perot dropped out of the race in July 1992. We supporters were mystified. Rumors were that one of his children had been seriously threatened. Can you say “Clinton”?

By this time I was serving as the Virginia 10th District Chairman of the Perot campaign. Our statewide meetings were conducted on the campus of the University of Virginia and that’s where I met Professor of Political Science, Larry Sabato, who was interested in the Perot phenomena.

I just don’t understand why Dr. Sabato was so receptive to Perot 24 years ago, and today is foot-dragging on Trump. It’s the same core issue – only more so. It’s NAFTA 2.0 plus the Obama invasion, and overwhelming Clinton corruption thrown in.

Perot stayed out of the race for the next 3 months, finally returning October – 5 weeks from election day. He was still polling so well that they had to participate in all 3 presidential debates. In the end, Perot got 19% of the vote – the largest 3rd party candidate vote in 80 years.

Today, people know they have been lied to on so many different issues. They know that the rule of law since the Clintons came to town has become a 2-tier system – one standard for those connected to the Clinton Crime Syndicate; but harsh justice for the rest of us.

On top of all that, people are scared. The shootings are now morphing into mass knifings in American malls, and the links to immigration are now becoming clear.

Now on the eve of the first head-to-head debate between Clinton and Trump, even pundits from both sides of the partisan divide are speaking out.
