Comparing UVXY, VIX, XIV, RS_160725 to Sept 23.*
I have noticed a pattern before, that a VIX number under about 11.25 seems to be the safest place to start averaging down. I started way too early, and then I panic-sold when it started going up. But I think I should have good results if I would stick to the VIX at 11.25 rule.*
On August 5, the VIX dropped to 11.18, and then reached the new 52-week low of 11.02 just two days later. Prices were in the range above $19 and below $23 for the next 4 weeks, or about 20 trading days.*
There seemed to be a "blow-off top" in the market. UVXY quickly dropped below $19, then below $18, then below $17, and suddenly it was above $26.*
The high of $26.10 on Sept. 13 was over 55% above the low of $16.76 on Sept 7. It was also more that 15% above the highest price in four weeks of $22.54 on Aug. 5, when the VIX reached 11.18.*
