A Chilean businessman based in Canada, requested that Ricardo Lagos declared as a witness in the lawsuit filed against Barrick Gold because it ensures that the Pascua Lama project is installed on part of their land.

Given the delay in that case, in December last year filed a new lawsuit, but this time at the 23rd Civil Court. The lawsuit asks that government authorities explain that time authorization to the project.

Among these authorities is Ricardo Lagos Escobar, as the applicant submits that the August 18, 2004, when he was president, he issued a supreme decree "flawed" on the protocol agreement between Chile and Argentina. Lopehandia says the former president gave the green light to an "unconstitutional and illegal" in approving the project Barrick, as the land where it is located would name an outsider, so could not be traded mining rights.

The employer asks declare null protocol agreement Pascua Lama, who supported the government of Ricardo Lagos in 2004, as a precautionary measure in force since 2001 prohibits agreements and contracts, entered the counter.

In that sense, Tuesday requested court appearance of the former president as a witness, and Soledad Alvear, Minister of Foreign Affairs of that period.
