Viva Entertainment Group (OTTV) Just Added a Weapon to Its Arsenal

Video content providers ranging from Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) to Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) have something to worry about now that Viva Entertainment Group Inc (OTCMKTS:OTTV) is delivering custom-built OTT video content service.

The offer Oi2 Media and Viva Entertainment Group Inc (OTCMKTS:OTTV) were going to make to Hispanic TV-watchers this October just got a little -- ok, a lot -- sweeter, making OTTV an even more compelling investment opportunity. Per Wednesday's press release, the distributor and the technology provider have added a large piece of FilmOn's on-demand video library to the service Viva Entertainment Group and Oi2 Media were planning on delivering via its new over-the-top television service.

It's news that requires a bit of backstory to fully appreciate.

Viva Entertainment Group is the developer of a technology called Viva Middleware, which is essentially a turn-key platform allowing anyone to get into the internet-based television game where they can compete not just with Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX), but also with more traditional cable services like those offered by Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA). In short, it's a tool that can break the monopoly-like hold established players have on the cable-television market.

It's a tool that's created an opportunity for media companies -- radio, TV, film, and even websites -- with a large following to leverage their user bases in another revenue-bearing way... by offering them a robust TV service that they couldn't deliver before, and making it a Latino-specific service that has great appeal to that market.

And Oi2 Media is such a company, with a large following that's not being fully tapped.

Oi2 is a leading global provider of content and services to the broadcast radio and digital audio marketplace with over 1,700 broadcast radio affiliations and a territorial presence in over 26 countries. More important in light of what Viva Entertainment and Oi2 could achieve together, the two outfits together sport a monthly reach of 4.5 billion people, 121.7M monthly socially media engaged users, 100 million social media followers, 33.5 million social media referrals and over 300 thousand e-mail subscribers. Now the companies can leverage those followers be offering them a stand-alone television service, rather than serving up video content to cable providers who then turn around and sell the very same content to the very same people.

What Viva Entertainment Group and Oi2 Media will be able to add to the offer once the service launches in October just got even more attractive.

FilmOn (FilmOn.TV) is a venue that offers free and premium-based internet-based delivery of television content. It's got new and old TV shows as well as new and old movies, offering 45,000 free on-demand videos across 600 different channels, plus a large library of paid content. It's arguably the most robust -- in terms of the sheer number of items in its library -- OTT video service in the world, with particular appeal to overseas (non-U.S.) consumers. It offers several country-specific channels, including one that takes aim at France, India, Italy, Russia, and more.

Per today's news release, a large piece of the FilmOn library will be available to customers of the new service Oi2 Media and Viva Entertainment Group are to begin selling next month. With even more content in the mix, would-be buyers have even more reason to become a subscriber.

At stake is a piece of what's expected to be a $65 billion over-the-top television market by the year 2021... a race that's heating up now that Netflix's dominance has proven it can be fragile. What's not been done yet is specialized content to suit a certain market or demographic. That is, until Oi2 and Viva developed their new joint product. That product got even stronger today, pushing that service closer to a must-have status for the Hispanic community that's otherwise paying for a lot of American/English-spoken television content they don't watch.

It's a scenario that makes OTTV worth a closer look from investors.
