Actually; the website host has turned off the site. Which knowing what has been going on with these people, no one likely has auth to access the hosting account to even make a payment. Which has nothing to do with the domain name itself.
Domain Name: SKIPJACKDND.COM Registrar: GODADDY.COM, LLC Sponsoring Registrar IANA ID: 146 Whois Server: whois.godaddy.com Referral URL: http://www.godaddy.com Name Server: NS11.DOMAINCONTROL.COM Name Server: NS12.DOMAINCONTROL.COM Status: clientDeleteProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientDeleteProhibited Status: clientTransferProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientTransferProhibited Status: clientUpdateProhibited https://icann.org/epp#clientUpdateProhibited Updated Date: 05-aug-2016 Creation Date: 24-jul-2012 Expiration Date: 24-jul-2017The domain name never expired, there is at least a 90 day window between actual expiration, and deletion, where the owner has the authority to reactivate or reclaim said domain.
For the record, a registrar 'update' does not cause a website to go down. It simple means someone either made a payment to continue the domain, changed an administrative and or contact information associated with the domain itself. Or a few other things such as transfer to another owner or registrar.
What may have occurred, or something of the likes, is the domain was updated to the new owner or administrative account, by someone not so familiar with the procedure, where most if not all registrars do not, or cannot transfer domain names within 30 days of an administrative account (or a transfer itself) change for security purposes. As well, the old hosting account was suspended in the middle of the mess by the newb. Just guessing.
