I really like those concepts as they allow a freedom from the tethered life which we haven’t had since before becoming addicted to technology. I can’t fault the utility companies. They have done a great job getting everyone powered up at a somewhat reasonable price for so long.

I think it makes sense for individuals to harvest their own Sun to H2 since the footprint per capita will be reduced without the need to make up the lost energy from transmission. But with population centers around the cities there will need to be outlying H2 Farms.

I wonder how the billing will work for a system like you are describing. People may have to cut a few trees to let the sunshine in.

We will need:
A tub to hold water, particles and some provisions for storage. A fuel cell would make sense rather than a noisy generator that would break down all the time. Will there be a power meter? There will be a service contract. There will be no user serviceable parts. Do not remove the cover...

Will we still need to be connected to the grid? What about winter in the Northern and Southern climes? They may not be able to produce anything during extended cloudiness.

A lot of rich hermits may pack up and head for the hills if they can find a source of water. It will be interesting to see how it affects population densities. Industry could benefit as well bringing access to power in remote areas.

GE Turbine will not benefit but they do have a fuel cell division which is growing along with their wind turbines. They could be a potential buyer when they wake up. The Oil and Gas Companies will be fierce competitors if they don’t buy some form of it. Hopefully the Nuclear Power Plants can be shut down reducing the chance of another Fukushima Daichi, 3 Mile Chernobyl disaster.

And maybe Lil ‘ole Earth will start cooling herself down with Eco systems reasserting themselves especially the reefs in the Oceans.

I actually like gas and oil. I have fond memories of a trip through the Caribbean in the ’70’s and the smell of diesel from the GM 671’s. Will it still be around in 100 years?
