Yet another promising new non-addictive opioid without respiratory depression in mice:

and google to find numerous recent stories about this study / finding, such as:

Will be years, but safer pain killers are coming, and hoping that fewer people will get hooked.

Then again, people will probably go with the cheapest pain killers they can find - unless all "addictive" pain medicines are outlawed, and even then users will probably gravitate to cheap heroin.

At least such non-addictive, non-respiratory depressive drugs will be available and should prevent many from becoming addicts in the first place. The added benefit is you can't OD on them.
