A lot of people ignore clues while they're falling for con games. How do you think that so many con artists get away with their scams, big and small.

When the story sounds good, they don't dig deeper.

Two maxims to consider:

1. When it sounds to good to be true, it probably isn't.
2. Trust but verify.
