Well because we had and ignorant POTUS that didn't even know that there were more than one type of Muslim and had no idea what he was doing we got this SNAFU. Once Cheney made the decision to disband the bathists our fate and the Iraqi fate was sealed. I know you don't understand what a Status of Forces Agreement is but Iraq would not modify terms and allow our troops to stay there with our terms so they couldn't prosecute our soldiers under their laws. Of course why would they change because Sunni's were now in power and yes Iran does have more influence on them PLUS Iran is helping fight ISIL which is their enemy as well. Oh and in case you apparently are not aware Iran was filling the void long before Obama became POTUS.
