It's like crowdfunding but for established businesses. They basically raise money so they can fulfill orders. This article probably will explain it better than I can.

Just from perusing the site a little it seems to be a legitimate way to fund growth for small companies. If you go to view all the companies they've helped you can see there are a lot that were funded multiple times to the tune of $100,000+ at a time.
