Chris Christie former aide's text says governor lying about bridge scandal

TRENTON, New Jersey (WABC) -- In court documents filed Wednesday morning, a senior aide of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie texted that the governor "lied" as he claimed during a December 2013 news conference that his campaign manager wasn't involved in the George Washington Bridge scandal.
Christina Genovese Renna, a former member of Christie's now-disbanded Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, texted as Christie spoke on Dec. 13, 2013. During the news conference, Christie denied that former campaign manager Bill Stepien closed lanes near the bridge in September 2013 as an act of political retribution,
"Are you listening?," Renna texted, according to the filing. "He just flat out lied about senior staff and Stepien not being involved."
After another aide responded, Renna texted: "Yes. But he lied. And if e-mails are found with the subpoena or ccfg e-mails are uncovered in discovery if it comes to that it could be bad."
It is not clear what "ccfg" meant.
Within weeks it was learned that senior Christie administration staff members were involved in the lane closures with the release of the message that said "time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee" that was written by Deputy Chief of Staff Bridget Kelly.
Kelly and top Christie appointee Bill Baroni have been charged by federal prosecutors over their role in the bridge scandal case and their trial is scheduled for September. The exchange is significant because it suggests Christie knew his senior staff was involved despite repeated denials and it suggests that he knew he was lying when he issued those denials.
An excerpt of the exchange from court documents:
Ms. Renna: "Are you listening? He just flat out lied about senior staff and Stepien not being involved." Mr. Sheridan: "I'm listening." Mr. Sheridan: "Gov is doing fine. Holding his own up there."
Ms. Renna: "Yes. But he lied. And if emails are found with the subpoena or ccfg emails are uncovered in discovery if it comes to that it could be bad."
