Markasis is got no power now I believe in a team that is more in the race his numbers may jump a bit, having said that he would be a terrible pickup for them, because of the amount of cash outlay for him combined with the little power he gives you. You need a homerun hitter if your planning to build for next year, you need a slugger in the middle of the order, and you need and ace starting pitcher, the good news is duffy is starting to develop. The bad news is you don't have much else I mean kennedy is a 4th/5th starter type. Ventura don't even get me started on him, him like evoldi are my two least favorite pitchers in baseball, also cashner who the padres are trying to trade, this guy is another guy I hate the type that on paper should be much better then they are.

I believe the right course of action is to get a starter and and of bat. a guy like reddick is fine because you have for next year, giving up anything for a guy like hill doesn't make sense to me first he has some injuyry concerns secondly he is not tied up next year, if your plan is to go for it next year to give up prospect, I need players controllable to next year at least because this year to make the playoffs is a longshot in my opinion if your the royals or mariner, who are both on the fringes of the race.

---All above is just my humble opinion.
And I could always be wrong.
And as always do your own DD.---
