Research is all well and good, that's what I do for a living, R&D. Having the proper tools in place one has to consider when is a good time to start with the development stage of the project. Sometimes it's as you go along (I like this method)Redo's are good on the front side of development, not on the phase one of development side .Having parameters outlined and in place such as what we have heard for the last three years, some concepts as to the mechanics of development have to start falling into place. This is where researchers have had the downfall in my experience. Putting a plan into action can be arduous to say the least and expensive. Bench chemistry can be lengthy and expensive but the actual physical development can be ridiculously long and drawn out. Any prototype need only to be that.....a prototype. When your name is attached to what people can see and touch researchers get very particular and defensive. If it ain't right they don't want people to be able to give them negative criticism, it hurts their ego....I've been there. When you step back and say "Whatayathink", when you know what you've created is top shelf and your arms aren't long enough to give yourself the pat on the back you know you deserve, that's when you put out the press release. End of phase one.....that takes time. Then on to phase two....scale up.
