Jeffrey Kessler, Imperial Capital's Security (Physical and Monitoring) analyst, published his quarterly 'Security and Alarm Monitoring Industry Update' yesterday in which he dedicated a section to the anti-counterfeiting industry. In the 'Anti-Counterfeiting Industry Update' section, Kessler stated, "Following the DoD's (Department of Defense) logistics division lead on DNA marking of critical electronic components for the military, the cotton industry has begun expanding its use of botanical DNA."

Kessler goes on to cite a recent decision to mark 10 million pounds of Alcala cotton - the highest quality type of Upland cotton - as evidence of growing market demand that began first with the marking of Pima, the highest-quality cotton. He lists several catalysts he believes has caused the cotton industry to begin genotyping and marking cotton with botanical DNA.
