When I'm in a long position, I'm often there for years. I try to regularly sell with spikes and expand my position with rebuying dips. I set a target goal for number of shares desired. When I reach that goal, I continue selling around my core and rebuying low until, if possible, I am riding free for the long term. When I am on a free ride, I'll continue to sell around the core and use profit to (slowly, for me) build a position in another chosen long hold where I engage in the exact same behavior.
I have to know a company very well to do this because I'm not and never will be skilled enough for daytrading. But once I know a company really well, I'll ride a channel like the one you've identified in PIRS and be able to fluff my position that way over time. My Roth account has frequency limitations that I always bump up against when I'm more active in taking small profits.
There are some unbelievably gifted traders and teachers here for this kind of thing.(I'm not one of them). Citrati. Boodog. Noretreat. Check them out. They'll teach if you ask and often just their posts are teaching explanations of chart activity and projections. Incredible resources who are very generous with their knowledge.
