I am sure they would have logs and other indications of no oil before a P&A decision would be made. Core sampling was likely done and would take longer to analyze but they probably don't need those results to make a decision to plug.

The core results are important though because they will show if trace amounts of oil remain showing that the problem was the trap, seal or reservoir sands. On the other hand, no traces of oil might show a lack of a working petroleum system in the block.

Better be hoping some traces of oil show up. Otherwise CEPSA may be walking like SNP did in the JDZ when they found no indications of oil, only biogenic gas.
