Keep in mind two facts.

1. It took deep pocket Apple 5 years (ignore $$$ for now) to establish CIP. Li chose to "buy" vs "make" to replicate the technology

2. Up till today (30 years later), all Amorphous formulation is still Zr, Cu, Ni base. Now we have two deep pockets (across two continent) to defend the patent.
