According to a DEA lawyer, the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is going to change marijuana from a Schedule I drug to a Schedule II drug on August first. The lawyer, who is anonymous, says that this would legalize medical marijuana throughout the entire country. “Whatever the law may be in California, Arizona or Utah or any other State, because of Federal preemption this will have the effect of making THC products legal with a prescription, in all 50 states,” said the attorney.
Earlier this year, the Drug Enforcement Administration hinted that it might be thinking of rescheduling the drug. On April 4th, the Drug Enforcement Administration sent a long letter to United States Senators stating that the DEA is going to decide whether or not they would like to reschedule marijuana within the first half of 2016. Therefore, the legal status of cannabis can change as soon as this month.
