Who gives a F*ck what you call it...(You accused me of deflecting the subject by changing the focus...this conversation is the poster child of the wrongly focused "course of action" in the gun debate)...and yes the NRA and gun manufacturers thank you for helping lead the dimmer bulbs in the conversation away from the real issue and toward a nonsense subject in the grand scheme of the real issue. (OK...staying in this thread makes me one of the "dimmer bulbs" which will thrill some of the spinning eyeballs that participate in this venue...)

Naming the instrument of death in a manner that is technically accurate, but communicatively clumsy is like brands becoming new words to describe every day (sigh) usage.

Get me a "Kleenex" v. all the non-Kleenex tissues

I've got the "video" v. CDs and DVDs with content

Whatever you want to call it, "Assault Rifle" is close enough to get the message to all the bulbs in the debate...dim or bright.
