Two More Republicans Change Party Affiliation Over Donald Trump
JUNE 13TH, 2016

Republicans are abandoning ship over the party’s presumed nominee. Donald Trump’s racist remarks on Judge Gonzalo Curiel prompted two high-ranking officials in one of the richest counties in the country to quit the Republican party, according to Mahwah Patch.

Hackensack Mayor John Labrosse and Deputy Mayor Kathleen Canestrino have filed a change of party affiliation with the county. They are now independents.

“Hackensack is a very diverse city and we respect all of our residents regardless of their race or heritage. The divisive and racist statements that Trump keeps making are insulting to many of our people and completely unacceptable,” Labrosse and Canestrino said in a joint statement. “We don’t want a young student in one of our schools hearing these things and believing that their own elected officials are supporting these types of statements.”

Trump has accused the judge presiding over Curiel of being biased because of his Mexican descent, however, Curiel was born in Indiana. The GOP front-runner claims that Curiel’s heritage is an “absolute conflict” and has even called for his recusal from the case.

The hotel magnate added last week, “I’m building the wall, I’m building the wall. I have a Mexican judge. He’s of Mexican heritage. He should have recused himself, not only for that, for other things.”

Trump has never specified what those ‘other things’ are. Words. Trump just uses words, then unleashes them without thought. It’s as if the GOP nominated a 12-year-old.

“We felt at this time, the best thing for us to do is to make a statement so that the citizens of our town are aware that we support the diversity in our community,” Canestrino said.

Patch reports:

The pair said there was not one specific comment that influenced their decision, but rather the general tone of the campaign, CBS reported.

The tone of Trump’s campaign is to lash out at others when his feelings are hurt. Trump would ban an entire religion in America, in stark disregard to our Constitution. Following the massacre in Orlando, the petulant GOP nominee tweeted this.

Donald J. Trump ? @realDonaldTrump
What has happened in Orlando is just the beginning. Our leadership is weak and ineffective. I called it and asked for the ban. Must be tough

Trump has been trolling the tragedy in Orlando since the moment it happened. Conservatives want him to have the nuclear codes. Think about that for a moment.

An Iowa state senator was the first elected official to leave the Republican party over Trump last week. State senator David Johnson compared the presumptive nominee’s campaign to the rise of Adolf Hitler.

Johnson said there is “definitely an innate bigotry” among a large share of Trump voters. “It really hurts for me to say that, but it’s true,” he added.

He’s not wrong.
