Indie director Martin Guigui will helm the tween-centered project, "Crazy for the Boys."

Martin Guigui has been tapped to helm Crazy for the Boys, a musical dramedy written by Brian Lukow, the creator of real-life boy band Dream Street. The film, about a fictional five-member girl group called Drama Drama, will be aimed at the tween audience.

The movie, which will follow the backstory of the girl group that its creators are comparing to a non-British Spice Girls, will be produced by Michael Z. Gordon, a songwriter who founded surf-sound pop groups The Marketts and The Routers. His film and TV composing credits include Pulp Fiction, Everybody Loves Raymond and Ally McBeal.

Gordon will be serving as the lead creative producer via his companies, My Own Worst Enemy Films and Americana Films.

Indie filmmaker Guigui’s past work includes 2002's Changing Hearts, 2003's Swing and 2009’s Benny Bliss & the Disciples of Greatness. His latest film, The Bronx Bull, starring Joe Mantegna, William Forsythe and Penelope Ann Miller, is being released nationwide on October 11.

“Stylistically, Crazy for the Boys is a perfect marriage of choreographed pop music and film for the loyal fan audience: tweens,” says Lukow, whose boy band Dream Street was popular with the young audience from 1999 to 2002.

Five young actresses have been cast to play the members of the band, and Crazy for the Boys is targeting a 2013 production start.
