SARASOTA, Fla., June 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Integrated Microwave Technologies (IMT), an xG Technology business unit and the leader in advanced digital microwave systems serving the broadcast, sports, entertainment and law enforcement markets, announces that its RefCam HD-I ("RefCam") integrated sports camera and transmitter was featured as an integral part of the Canadian Hockey League's Memorial Cup broadcast. The RefCam HD-I is a COFDM (Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing), HD video transmitter with an integrated high definition camera that captured unprecedented footage from the referee's point-of-view—bringing fans an entirely new way to experience the sport.

The Memorial Cup tournament, which concluded this past weekend, was broadcast across Canada on Sportsnet, a multichannel brand property of Canadian media giant Rogers. The games were also broadcast on the NHL Network in the U.S.

The RefCam was previously used at the 2016 NHL All-Star Game in Nashville, TN, allowing viewers to see on-ice shots of their favorite players. IMT also showcased the RefCam at the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) 2016 Show last month in Las Vegas, NV. It is expected to be used in future high-profile professional hockey games and tournaments.

"The RefCam HD-I transmitter brings viewers closer to the action at live sporting events than ever before and we are excited to have it being used extensively throughout the Memorial Cup broadcast," says John Payne IV, President of IMT. "It allows fans to experience the event from an entirely new perspective. With the Memorial Cup, IMT gains a superb platform to showcase the capabilities of our technology to the broadcast world."

George Schmitt, CEO and Board Chairman of xG Technology, said, "The announcement of the deployment of the RefCam product is another example of the innovations IMT is bringing to the markets they serve, in this case the sports and entertainment sector. It will serve to strengthen the strong presence they already have among leading sports leagues and teams."

"We could not be more excited for the RefCam HD-I to be involved with the broadcast of the Memorial Cup," said Chris Stramacchia, Founder of iSee, IMT's integration partner for the RefCam. "The RefCam HD-I delivers incredible live shots of the faceoff and live-action goal shots. As the games progressed, the league gained confidence in the reliability and superb image quality and has used the live feed repeatedly."

The RefCam HD-I was specifically created to be worn with or integrated into a sports helmet in a small, low-power consumption form factor. Featuring a sleek, contoured design, the RefCam HD-I is unobtrusive to the wearer as well as players. With an easy to clip on battery module, users have over one hour of continuous runtime and can easily switch out batteries in between play.
