A Democrat Just Told Trump Exactly Where To Place His Wall, And It’s Perfect

Texas Congressman Filemon Vela (D-Brownsville) published a brutal missive aimed at Donald Trump and his ethnonationalist rhetoric on Monday, with a simple message for the presumptive GOP nominee: “Mr. Trump, you’re a racist and you can take your border wall and shove it up your ass.”
He continued on to deride Trump’s outrageous proposal to build a giant wall across our southern border as alienating and counter-productive. “While you would build more and bigger walls on the U.S.-Mexico border, I would tear the existing wall to pieces. Why any modern-thinking person would ever believe that building a wall along the border of a neighboring country, which is both our ally and one of our largest trading partners, is frankly astounding and asinine.”
Already anticipating the reaction from Trump and his racist supporters, Vela was ready with a response to any claims of bias due to his “Mexican” heritage. “Before you dismiss me as just another ‘Mexican,’ let me point out that my great-great grandfather came to this country in 1857, well before your own grandfather. His grandchildren (my grandfather and his brothers) all served our country in World War I and World War II. His great-grandson, my father, served in the U.S. Army and, coincidentally, was one of the first ‘Mexican’ federal judges ever appointed to the federal bench.”
His letter is not only an amusing response to Trump’s rampant xenophobia, it also highlights the absurdity of the right-wing conception of “American heritage,” since the vast majority of American citizens are composed of immigrants from other nations after the horrifically successful genocide of this land’s native inhabitants. The sentiments of Mr. Vela’s message are spot on, even if he could have been a bit more civil with his language use – but sometimes the anger and frustration that Trump evokes just brings out the puerile in all of us.
