Can't really know what their motivation was, perhaps they saw value in the last data ONCS presented at AACR. The panel certainly explained the significance of the data. But just because a big bet is made it doesn't mean it will pay off. Big name investors have lost big amounts in betting what they believed would be successful. I guess these guys are just making an educated bet for all we know.
As for them knowing additional information for this investment I highly doubt that's the case here as that would be insider trading.
