Never had much interest in the Raptors... that is my loss. They are courageous, and there fans should be proud... just as us Rocket's fans were proud last year... while they flushed this year. Lawd how we miss Hakeem the Dream.
The story this year, as a lifelong NBA fan, is OKC. They have forced the Warriors to the brink. The same Warriors that won 73 games with a 2 time MVP... a unanimous MVP for the first time in NBA history. That is the story.
I remember... I was in the Summit in Houston while Hakeem took David Robinson, the MVP that year to school, just dominated him and the Spurs... and the crowd was yelling "MVP, MVP" for the Dream... on the way to winning their second NBA Championship. Olaguwan did the same to Kareem and Shaq and Ewing the year before. I was there. They were getting old, he was smaller, but younger and quicker... they couldn't handle him at all. And he ran down the court like an antelope, and jumped like a deer. Still may hold the record for blocked shots... nobody, NOBODY wanted to go inside when Olaguwan was there...Nobody! And when they fouled him, which they did repeatedly because they couldn't stop him, he made them pay by making his free throws.
Hakeem was the greatest player I ever got to watch, live, with good seats. 2nd was "The Doctor"... Julius Erving... I watched him score 24 points in the 4th quarter to beat the Denver Nuggets(Rockets) in the last ABA Championship game seven in Denver. This is more awesome considering Bobby Jones, 4-5 time all defensive player of the year was guarding him. 3rd was David Thompson, who I watched score 50+ points twice. He was the closest to Michael Jordan as a player/athlete ever. 48" vertical jump... on his jumpshot. Amazing.
Not so exited now days.
