Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) this week voted during an Energy and Commerce Committee markup for a series of bills that address the opioid abuse epidemic across our nation.

“Unfortunately, Kentucky is the epicenter of opioid abuse in our country, and these bipartisan bills will help make strides in our ability to help those suffering from addiction. These bills ensure our laws address the ongoing opioid epidemic in the modern era and improve prevention and treatment of opioid abuse,” said Guthrie.

The bills included: H.R. 3250, DXM Abuse Prevention Act of 2015; H.R. 3680, Co-Prescribing to Reduce Overdoses Act of 2015; H.R. 3691, Improving Treatment for Pregnant and Postpartum Women Act; H.R. 4641, to provide for the establishment of an inter-agency task force to review, modify, and update best practices for pain management and prescribing pain medication; H.R. 4981, Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Expansion and Modernization Act; H.R. 4969, James Thomas Decker Act of 2016; H.R. 4586, Lali’s Law; H.R. 4976, Opioid Review Modernization Act of 2016; and H.R. 4982, Examining Opioid Treatment Infrastructure Act of 2016.

“Our committee has worked diligently on a bipartisan basis to develop solutions that will not only help those who are struggling with addiction but also get to the root of this complex problem,” said Guthrie. “The passage of these bills is a step forward in stemming this epidemic.”
