Not a monopoly. Only two patients, so far

MJNA doesn't have a monopoly in Mexico, because in November, an import permit was issued to import GW Pharma's Epidiolex to "Grace".

In addition, the February 1, 2016 announcement from the Mexico Misistry of Health, to which MJNA links in one or mor of its press releases, shows at that time there were only two permits approved, for patients "Maria Paula" and "Alina". Why didn't MJNA mention that the current permits only cover two people?

I converted the PDF to Word and ran it through Google translate. Below is the complete text:

Press Release 08/16
February 1, 2016

THE HEALTH MINISTRY APPROVES TWO IMPORT PERMITS FOR A PRODUCT WITH CANNABIDIOL

In response to two requests from parents of minors "Alina" and "Maria Paula" COFEPRIS issued two import permits for the American product "RSHO - X Real Scientific Hemp Oil" without THC.

Authorizations, which account for three with issued for Grace, were issued in strict compliance with the existing legal framework and display previous prescription.

Permits were put s available to parents of minor

In order to speed up access of patients to alternative treatments, the Ministry of Health through the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risk (COFEPRI S) approved two new permits import of a product with cannabidiol who requested parents Alina minor and Maria Paula.

Authorizations are issued for the product "RSHO - X Real Scientific Hemp Oil" containing cannabidiol but not the substance called Tetrahydrocannabinol THC, restricted by health legislation, and manufactured by the US company General Hemp.

The two applications for permits to import this product, which has no sanitary registration in Mexico, received the last 21 and 28 January, by the parents of the minor "Maria Paula" and "Alina" and were approved the last friday

In such applications, the parents of the minor annexed the requirements of Article 245, Section I of the General Health Act and Section IV of Regulation 196 of the Health Inputs:

1) Recipes treating physicians of the minor in which cannabidiol based products were prescribed.

2) Consistency by the producing laboratory in the sense that the product imported does not contain (THC).

The same last Friday, l to COFEPRIS I made available to the parents of the slower the authorizations requested from the following rational:

1) It is feasible access to products with Cannabidiol since the banned substance in terms of the General Health Law is THC.

2) Article 132 of Regulation of Health Supplies provides a mechanism for import for personal use of products that do not have health registry in Mexico, the only requirement being that the doctor prescribed minor treatment.

These two licenses are added to the import permit that was issued in favor of "Grace" for the product "Epidiolex," which was made available to the Judge of Amparo on 4 November. [emphasis added]

COFEPRIS reaffirms its commitment to the health of children and the quick access of Mexicans to the therapeutic options for treatment requiring patients.
