Wicked snowstorm delays hundreds of flights, 420 rally in Denver
KING 8:39 PM. PDT April 16, 2016

DENVER — A heavy spring snowstorm canceled more than 800 flights Saturday as the Denver metro area braced for more than a foot of snow.

Airlines canceled 852 flights at Denver International Airport as of Saturday morning. That represents about 71% of scheduled flights for the day.

United Airlines canceled all its inbound and outbound flights at the airport Saturday. The airline is offering change-fee waivers for travelers who choose to rebook through April 20. Refunds are available for customers who choose not to travel.

Most of the airlines are planning to operate a full schedule on Sunday, airport officials said.

The storm also forced the postponement of Saturday's unofficial "420" festival, which annually draws thousands of marijuana enthusiasts and vendors to Denver. Organizers said the rally at Civic Center Park will be rescheduled.

Denver police confirmed the information via Twitter Saturday afternoon.

The storm system is expected to pummel parts of the Rockies and High Plains. The National Weather Service issued storm warnings Saturday for Colorado and parts of Utah and Wyoming.

The storm will bring heavy rains and potential flooding from Nebraska to Texas, according to the National Weather Service.
